Maximos Constas is the Senior Research Scholar at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. Formerly an Associate Professor of Theology at Harvard Divinity School, he has authored multiple books and academic papers on Orthodox theology and iconography. His talk will begin with some basic principles about Orthodox iconography, then dive into detail about the icon of the Nativity. Particular focus will be given to the Magi, who despite their diminished size and often marginal location, are an important feature of the image. FAQs What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? St. Mary's has a parking lot, but space is very limited. If you park in the lot, plan to stay until the end of the event. If you arrive late or have to leave early, we recommend ridesharing or taking the T (Central Square on the Red Line is a 3 minute walk from the church). If you're bringing a car and can't find street parking, the nearby Green Street Garage is a good option. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Nope! We'll have a list at the door. What will we be painting? See the event photo! Our painting will be a winter scene of the 3 Magi on their way to Bethlehem. Do I get to take my painting home? Absolutely! Do I have to paint the exact example painting? Nope! While the instructions will teach you how to get the basic idea down, you'll be free to add your own personal touches however you'd like. What can I bring to the event? We'll supply all of the art materials and food, so all you need to bring is a list of questions you have about iconography for Fr. Maximos! Really? You guys don't need anything? Okay, fine. If you have a yummy dessert that you're dying to show off we won't turn you down! Just let us know what you're bringing.
