Event Times: Session 1: Friday, 1/12/2018, 4 PM - 6 PM Session 2: Friday, 1/19/2018, 4 PM - 6 PM Session 3: Friday, 1/26/2018, 4 PM - 6 PM Session 4: Friday, 2/02/2018, 4 PM - 6 PM Description: Want to build big? Learn to use the industrial Multicam CNC router! Able to cut 2- and 3-dimensional shapes from full-size, inches-thick sheets of wood, plastics, and aluminum, this machine is the largest computer-controlled cutter currently in our shops. In this month-long intensive training, learn everything you need to know to operate the machine safely and independently. The class will cover topics including: processing HSMWorks files through the controller,  setting appropriate spindle speeds modifying tool paths allowable materials and thicknesses loading material onto the table identifying failure modes and trouble-shooting Class Goals: The successful student will be able to take an existing file and run it through the machine independently without hurting themselves, others, or the machine. Additional run time may be necessary in order for students to feel comfortable addressing various failure modes of the machine without consulting the instructor. Prerequisites: Should have completed the HSMWorks for CNC Machining class here at Artisan's Asylum or have equivalent experience with HSMWorks. Students may be enrolled in HSMWorks class concurrently with this class in order to meet this prerequisite.  Materials Provided: Registration covers the cost of basic training materials and tool maintenance. Students have the option of working on an independent project, in which case they will be responsible for obtaining the necessary additional materials. What to Bring: Students should have a means for taking notes in class. Students should wear closed-toe shoes and avoid dangling jewelry, clothing, or hair. Students have the option of bringing their own file for cutting. Instructor Biography: Douglas Ruuska is a recovering physicist whose pendulum has swung back, once again, to the realm of art. He has worked at CERN and Fermi Lab, the Antarctic and many, many places in between. He has done such things as DAQ and control coding, stained glass, motorcycle and Landrover mechanic, Bio-Tech instrumentation design, 1-MeV neutron radiation damage studies, photography all over the planet and kinetic sculptures such as his Galaxy and Let's Go Fly a Bike for the Burning Man Festival, among other things. He tends to stay busy and enjoys good beer very much...   ARTISAN'S ASYLUM STUDENT POLICIES   After you buy your ticket here on Eventbrite, please register in Artisan's Asylum's system: Purchase of a ticket expresses acceptance of A2's Refunds and Cancellation policies found here: Attending class FAQ: Support our mission!
